FD Fashion Show, Newcastle College SS11

As if i have just noticed that I never actually published any photographs from my final catwalk show last year, my tea cup inspired collection. So here's a little over view of the garments and accessories that I made :)

p.s. the catwalk photographs were taken by my lovely girlee smiffle :}

My shirt dress - light weight cotton with a dusky pink silk dupion section, edged in cream chiffon with tiny mother of pearl buttons.
This is a close up of the rose which I drew by hand, then had it digitally printed. I then machine embroidered it onto the shirt dress.
Little close up to show chiffon edging and tiny pearly buttons.
This is the back of my dress. I drew the rose then created a repeat print which was then digitally printed onto a light cotton fabric. The dress is again silk dupion and the printed fabric panel is edged with cream chiffon.
My favourite garment!!
These palatso trousers are made from a cream chiffon with a dusky pink silk dupion waist band.

My dress is made from a dusky pink
silk dupion and a floral printed section, edged with a cream chiffon. The print was hand drawn by myself and created into a repeat pattern.

This is just a little boob tube top made from appliqued digitally printed roses to be worn with my trousers.

Ones To Watch, LFW Sept 2011

Posthuman Wardrobe SS12
I fell in love with this collection from the very first outfit. Traditional bespoke tailoring techniques have been used in new ways to create a collection that at first seems to be casual wear, then you notice the work that has gone into the design of the simplest things, such as hoods, the fabric and overall styling. If I was a man, this would be my brand of choice.

James Small SS12
There was a lot of excitement surrounding this show, especially when icon Kate Moss attended front row, as did Jamie Winston and Sadie Frost amongst other stars. The collection itself featured delicate floral prints, sheer fabrics and casual tailoring. A very desirable collection.

Final Major Project: Final Garments

I decided to create my own print for panels in my fitted dress. I sketched a rose design, then coloured it using photoshop. The image was then digitally printed onto cotton fabric. The design came out brighter than I had expected and did not seem to match with the dusky pink of the silk dupion I had already chosen. I decided to still use both fabrics and I am really happy with the final result. The colours in the print are tonal with the fabric, but the vibrancy of the print stands out and gives the garments a fresh, quirky look.

I digitally printed an enlarged single rose for my shirt dress. The print looked really flat against the plain background, so I used a domestic sewing machine to highlight some of the petals and the veins in the leaves.

A little bit more like summer...

My feeling more summer everyday seems to be getting drowned by all this random rain so in a bid to brighten up those rainy moments, I have purchesed these floral wellington boots, a bargin from Peacocks on the high street. Not as show stopping a Valentino's lace ones, but still gorgeous at a fraction of the price, a very reasonable £16.

Final Major Project!
For my FMP, I have looked at events happening over this year and next. With Britain hosting the 2012 Olympics, Royal weddings and anniversaries, I feel that 'Britishness' will become a major trend. I have decided to concentrate upon the very British past time of tea.

I
have used the tea cup shape to influence the silhouette and the floral detailing on china cups as inspiration for print and embroidery details on my garments.

This is some designer research on Wunderkind. I love their use of fabric prints in their Spring 2010 collection. The colours are fresh with essence of vintage and nostalgia.

I have developed my initial designs from thumbnail flats to full oufits. I have used water colour pencils, an HB pencil and aqua markers in dusky pinks, rosy pinks, sky blues and neutral tea shades to give an idea of the colour scheme and overall feel of my collection. I have added silk dupion, fine silk organza and chiffon to the fabric box, again to help give an idea of the drape and styling of the collection.

F
inal
line ups. I wanted to create a collection that is fresh and youthful, with pieces that can be dressed up with expensive vintage accessories for nights out drinking cocktails with friends and dressed down with your favorite flat shoes for warm summer evenings in the park.

The fabrics for this collection are light and sheer; chiffon, organza and light cotton jersey. Silk dupion is to be used for pieces needing a little more structure, for example, the dress with the structured silhouette (left) and the fitted dress (above). The floral detail is to be printed, then a machine embroidered outline added to create a more personal, hand made quality to the garments.

I have looked at accessories to go with my collection. I have designed a range of tea cup shoes, complete with handle and teabag.
